Purple Martin Field Trip — Lane County

TRIP LEADER: Lorelle Sherman

WHEN: Saturday, July 15, 2017. Meet at 8 AM.

WHERE: We will meet at the Bureau of Land Management Shotgun Creek Recreational Site. This site is near Mabel in Lane County. A parking fee of $3 per vehicle is required at this site.

BIRDS AND SITE CONDITIONS: Our goal is to observe Purple Martins at a natural snag nesting colony. While there, we will observe other snag nesting and early seral nesting bird species. Our trip leader, Lorelle Sherman, is a graduate student at the OSU Forest Ecosytems and Society department. She is very familiar with the site and its forest ecology.

We will travel to known nesting sites for Purple Martins and associated habitats on private timberlands near Horse Rock Ridge. The birding will be from forest roads; some walking along forest roads may be required. Dress for the weather; boots are recommended.

Participants are responsible for their own travel. Carpooling is encouraged for travel to the site. The number of vehicles will be kept to a minimum due to limited parking on the private timberlands. Please be prepared to share your vehicle or ride with others.

How to register: This trip is limited to 12 OBA members. To join OBA, click here.

Registration is required. Click here for registration form.
